This spring break we headed to the beautiful island of Kauai for a week. While we've been to Kauai before, we have always stayed in hotel suites - the Grand Hyatt and Sheraton which are both located in Poipu. This time, I wanted to explore the northern part of the island so I opted for a home in Princeville which is about a 50 minute drive from the Lihuie airport (you'll pass a Safeway and Starbucks in Kapaa on the way).
Let me cut to the chase and say that the home, Surf Song, was amazing.
It's located in a quiet neighborhood about one mile down the road from the St. Regis hotel. It is situated directly on a cliff and has a million dollar view. There is a small beach below the property that can be accessed in about 15 minutes via a wooded path.
The house is nicely appointed with an outdoor shower, four bedrooms and a hot tub on the deck. The bedroom ambiance leaves something to be desired after the fantastic entry view, but the beds are comfortable and you don't see much when you're sleeping, right?
The golf club and a great park with a play structure are within walking distance. The St. Regis was perfect for a nice dinner, breakfast buffet and champagne at sunset. Just 5 minutes away by car is a shopping center with a grocery store, gas station, coffee shop, eateries and a few shops. TikiIniki was yummy and family friendly. Further down the road about 15 minutes is Hanalei where you'll find several places to eat, shop, rent water equipment and go on tours. We liked Bubba's Burgers for a break from seafood.
Princeville is a gorgeous, lush contrast to the southern part of the island in Poipu. Even with it's slightly cooler temperatures and wetter weather it will be our go-to locale for Kauai visits in the future and Surf Song will be our home of choice. Aloha!
